Learning To Say No

You are allowed to say no. You don’t have to say yes to everything and everybody all the time. Sometimes saying no is more right than wrong; if you are saying yes to too much and it is damaging your health, it is not the right thing to do, because we are not told to exhaust and destroy the body that we have been given. We are told to take care of it.

Saying no is also about prioritizing the right things, to say yes to things of God and no to the things that are not of Him and things that don’t add anything to our lives.

You can say no to sin, to being like everybody else, and to doing what everybody else is doing. You can say no to drugs, smoke, alcohol, and any unhealthy lifestyle.
You can say no to that friend who keeps using you for your money. You can say no to people who are negative, abusive, manipulate, and dishonest. You don’t have to surround yourself with this kind of people. It’s not a sin to say no to be used and abused.

Follow Your Own Intuition And Keep Your Own Values

We all have that little inner voice that tells us what’s right and wrong, what we should and shouldn’t do. This is God speaking to us and guiding us, and if we listen to our intuition, we will be guided in the right way. But often we forsake it or block it out and listen to other people’s voices and opinions instead.

Each time you’re about to make a choice that makes you unsure if you should do it or not, ask yourself about the motive behind the choice first. Am I listening to my inner voice? Am I doing this because of what other people would think or say? Am I doing this because of loneliness or insecurities? Am I doing this out of feelings of anger, frustration, or jealousy?

And then you can take a calm, sane, and right choice, with a good conscience knowing that you’ve thought it through. When you get too dependent on listening to other people’s advices and what they think you should do, you will never learn to listen to that little inner voice that guides you. You will never learn to be confident in making your own decisions. And you may be walking paths that are not intended for you.

Other people don’t always know what’s best for you, but your inner gut feeling, also called the intuition, does. And it leads you towards the path that is meant for you, towards the happy, fulfilling life you were meant to live. Follow your voice and your intuition, and you will follow the path that is right for you, the path that helps you to be all that you can be and live your life happily.

Follow Your Own Voice

Your intuition is telling you that it is not a good idea to get back together with this friend or partner, but still you do it anyway, because of loneliness or insecurities, and you end up choosing bad company rather than being alone.
You know it’s not good to smoke, drink, or use drugs, but you do it anyway because of what others think you should do. And maybe you have a certain group of friends that you are afraid to lose if you follow your own will and intuition? You know you shouldn’t lend money to a friend who always borrows and borrows but never pays you back and doesn’t really seem to care. But you end up doing it again and again anyway, and this is because you are not listening to your own inner voice, but this other person’s voice. If you had listened to your own inner voice, you would know that it is not wrong or selfish saying no to this person, and maybe help this person stand on his/her own two feet.

Sometimes the best help we can give others is saying no to them, forcing them to change their lives, hopefully for the better.

It’s different saying no to a poor man or lady living on the street because we do have a responsibility to help those who have nothing. But we don’t have a responsibility to help others waste our money, which we could use on people who really need it. You are allowed to say no when somebody wants to borrow money to party or buy new clothes or gadgets that you can barely afford yourself. When people are starving or need your help to survive, you should say yes to help them.
When you learn to know yourself and listen to God and your intuition, it will be easier to make choices that are more right for you. Learn to listen to your intuition, and learn to make wiser choices.
